Academic Urology signs new contract with Independence Blue Cross

Academic Urology, the largest urology specialty medical group in Pennsylvania, announced today that it has signed a new contract with Independence Blue Cross (IBC). Academic Urology is participating in IBC’s network, effective September 1, 2012. No other contract terms were disclosed.

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with IBC that allows its members access to Academic Urology physicians,” said David J. Ellis, MD, president of Academic Urology.

Academic Urology is headquartered in King of Prussia, PA, and includes 36 urologists in 16 locations throughout Philadelphia’s western suburbs. The group operates the Prostate Center in King of Prussia, PA, in cooperation with the Fox Chase Cancer Center. The Prostate Center is certified by the American College of Radiology and the College of American Pathologists.

More than 25 of Academic Urology’s physicians hold Top Doctor status in Philadelphia Magazine, Main Line Today Magazine, and US News & World Report. The group offers the only fellowship-trained urologists in Philadelphia’s suburbs in clinical areas including robotic surgery, urologic cancer, and other specialties. The group is a leading adopter of new technologies, such as electronic medical records, that improve efficiency and care for patients.

“We are certainly pleased that once again, effective September first, IBC members will be able to access Academic Urology urologists on an in-network basis,” Dr. Ellis said. “We look forward to welcoming IBC members, and all patients, to the highest quality urologic care in the region.”
