VICTUS Femtosecond Laser for Eye Surgery Cleared in U.S.

TPV’s new Femto-Cataract Procedure with the VICTUS™ Femtosecond Laser Platform is a new femtosecond laser procedure for performing the key steps in the cataract surgery procedure. VICTUS™ is the first femtosecond laser single platform for LASIK flap, cataract, refractive and therapeutic procedures providing unparalleled versatility and leading-edge technology.*

The VICTUS Femtosecond Laser Platform offers advanced engineering and unique features such as:

Real-time, high-contrast OCT

Enables image-guided cataract surgery planning and monitoring for more precise procedure

Bausch + Lomb and Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH (München, Germany) received European clearance for their new jointly marketed VICTUS femtosecond laser system.

Approved for LASIK flap, astigmatic keratotomy, INTRACOR, capsulotomy and lens fragmentation, the ultra short pulse laser provides precision cutting while generating little heat within the tissue.

Bausch + Lomb and Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH (München, Germany) received FDA clearance to bring the VICTUS Femtosecond Laser Platform to U.S. ophthalmologists. The VICTUS permits cataract and corneal procedures to be performed on the same system, and takes variability out of some steps, like the capsulotomy (incision to access the lens) that would normally be done manually.

The system received European clearance late last year (see flashback below).

From the announcement:

LRCS [Laser Refractive Cataract Surgery] may require less phaco energy and time during lens fragmentation, improve intraocular lens placement, and potentially enhance patient outcomes and experience.

LRCS may require less phaco energy and time during lens fragmentation, improve intraocular lens placement, and potentially enhance patient outcomes and experience.

The VICTUS platform is cleared for creation of a corneal flap in patients undergoing LASIK surgery or other treatment requiring initial lamellar resection of the cornea and anterior capsulotomy during cataract surgery, with plans to submit additional indications to the FDA. The product is now available for shipment in the U.S.
